After your initial assessment is completed, we will begin working on your individualized treatment plan.
9Can counseling help me?
Yes! Talking with a counselor may be one of the most important decisions you make in order to help you make positive changes in your life.

People often come in feeling stuck, confused, unhappy and overwhelmed. One of the most important things we do is listen and validate how you feel without being judgmental. This will often help you to begin to feel safe.

Together, we will identify things in your life that may have contributed to how you feel, think, and act. We will develop a plan to increase your positive coping skills while working to decrease negative thinking patterns and unhealthy behaviors.

We will review your goals periodically throughout treatment in order to identify areas where you have improved and to identify new goals.
10How can I get the most out of counseling?
You will gain the most out of counseling by making it a priority, which means making a commitment to attend sessions regularly.

It will help to keep in mind that counseling is not a "quick fix." In fact, it may take a little time in treatment for you to see significant or consistent change.

Be aware that building a trusting relationship with your counselor may initially be challenging, especially if you have had difficulty trusting others in the past.

Understanding that It may take some time for you to feel comfortable talking and sharing your story.

By practicing new skills outside of your counseling sessions and being willing to complete assignments.

Being honest with yourself and others about how you feel while working through challenges.

By not giving up! Perseverance, "steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success." (New Oxford American Dictionary)
