9Can counseling help me?
Yes. Talking with a counselor can be one of the most important decisions you make, which can help you make positive changes in your life.

People often come in feeling stuck, confused, unhappy and overwhelmed. One of the most important things we do is listen, validate how you feel without being judgmental, and help you to begin to feel safe.

We will help you identify things in your life that may have contributed to how you feel, think, and act. Together, we will develop a plan to increase your positive coping skills while working to decrease negative thinking patterns.

To ensure that counseling is helping you, we will review your goals periodically throughout treatment in order to identify areas where you have improved.
10How can I get the most out of counseling?
By making counseling a priority and being willing to commit to attending sessions regularly.

It helps to understanding that counseling is not a "quick fix." In fact, it may take some time in treatment for you to see significant and consistent change.

Understanding that building a trusting relationship with your counselor may be hard for you. Some people find it easy to connect with their counselor and talk freely right away. For others, it can take some time for them to feel comfortable talking and sharing their story.

Be willing to work toward completing assignments and practicing new skills outside of your therapy sessions.

Being honest with yourself by understanding you may have to work through some negative feelings.
