About Us

ANGELA T. HORTON, MACMHC, NCC, CCMHC, LPCC-S, CDCA
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

It is a joy and a passion to help adults, adolescents, and couples have more fulfilling lives. I believe it is important to show people that you care by treating them with kindness and respect. I especially enjoy helping people who are survivors of trauma. I specialize in working with people suffering from depression, anxiety, the harmful effects of childhood neglect, emotional and sexual abuse. In addition, I am passionate about marriage and enjoy helping couples work through challenges in their relationship.

I am the founder of Speak Life Christian Counseling and Coaching, LLC, where our mission is to help you find hope, encouragement, and the strength to Begin to Live Again. I graduated with honors from Ashland Theological Seminary, with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MACMHC). I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervision Designation (LPCC-S), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) and a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) practicing in the State of Ohio. My memberships include the American Counseling Association (ACA), American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International.

My clinical experience includes working as an inpatient and intensive outpatient therapist at a mental health hospital where I counseled patients diagnosed with severe mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, stress-related disorders, personality disorders and psychotic disorders. I taught inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy groups to help patients and their families to better understand their diagnosis, to help them identify and utilize healthy coping skills in order to reduce clinical symptoms and to improve their overall mental health. My experience in private practice as a mental health counselor includes the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, personality and behavioral disorders, substance use disorders, stress-related disorders, and relationship issues for adults, adolescents, and couples. As a clinical supervisor, I train and mentor new counselors in best practices. I enjoy working with new clinicians to help them learn and implement professional behavior and competence, identify objectivity, consider ethical considerations in clinical care, and to implement and maintain good self-care.

I have over 20 years’ experience working in Christian church leadership. I have been the keynote speaker at various women's conferences and events. I have written and taught Bible studies for women, conducted leadership mentoring groups and training classes for diverse groups of people and served as a ministry leader and coach for single parents.

Taking the first step may be hard, but you don't have to continue to suffer.

COURTNEY R. FULLROTH, BA, CT
COUNSELOR INTERN

Growing up, I have always enjoyed helping others and being there for my friends and family. While attending undergrad, I noticed that there were multiple people in my circle who went to counseling and others who could have benefited from counseling. I also noticed that there were long waitlists to get in to see someone. I decided that becoming a counselor would allow me to be one more person helping those in need.

I love getting to know people and caring for others. For almost ten years, I have worked in healthcare as a caregiver in nursing homes and provided in-home healthcare for people in need of assistance with daily living activities. As a healthcare provider, I have learned the value of active listening by paying attention to changes in body language and demeanor to help assess my clients’ needs. I have learned to lead with compassion by being patient, showing empathy and offering loving kindness. These qualities have made a huge impact on the quality of care that my clients receive.

As a counselor, I enjoy working with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, challenges with adjustments and addictions. I am also passionate about helping couples work through challenges in their relationship. It is a joy to hear my clients’ stories, listen to their struggles and then watch them begin to implement techniques that they have learned in sessions and come to new realizations about themselves. This new self-awareness helps them to make life changes. Being able to speak life into my clients’ situation is very rewarding. I love knowing that I am able to help people have a better life.

As a Christian counselor, I believe faith is an important part in an individual's life. Although optional, many of my clients benefit from incorporating scripture and prayer into their sessions. I have experience working in church leadership as a small group coordinator, Bible study coordinator and ministry intern. These experiences have taught me how beneficial the use of scripture and prayer can be when struggling with mental health disorders. I am currently a graduate student at Ashland Theological Seminary earning a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MACMHC). I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA) from The Ohio State University. I have a Counselor Trainee (CT) license issued by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board. I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). I am currently engaged and I plan to get married in the spring of 2021.

MORIAH BANKS, BA, CT
COUNSELOR INTERN

I have always been a helper with a strong desire to help people navigate through hardships and challenging life experiences. What I like most about the field of counseling is working with people from different backgrounds, and coming alongside those who are seeking help to improve their quality of life. I enjoy being a part of creating positive change. Working in the field of counseling is a way for me to show compassion, empathy, emotional support and provide clinical care for those in need.

Within the last five years, I have worked as a sexual violence advocate which includes working on the Ohio Sexual Violence Helpline which is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. I serve as an in-hospital advocate for sexual assault survivors in 19 different hospitals in Central Ohio. In this role, I engage in active-listening, provide confidential emotional support and on-site crisis intervention. I also provide survivors with information and resources for most counties within the state of Ohio. I am also an active participant in community outreach events. I have gained excellent knowledge and experience in crisis management, trauma-informed care and emotional support.

In my role as a counselor, I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, children and couples. My clinical experience includes working with clients who are survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, various types of trauma as well as clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, and behavioral disorders.

What I appreciate most about being a Christian Counselor is the opportunity to pray for, and with all of my clients who request prayer. I believe that God works with me and through me, giving me spiritual insight to assist in the healing process in the lives of the clients that I work with. I am currently a graduate student at Walden University earning a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) with a specialty in Addiction. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA) with a minor in Philosophy from Theil College. I have a Counselor Trainee (CT) license issued by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board. I am married and have two children.
